The State of Ohio continues to lead the nation with 150 environmentally friendly public school facilities – LMS is one of them. London Middle School “Ohio’s First LEED Platinum School” was completed in in 2011, having 74,600 square feet, costing $13,300,000.

LMS has some of the following green attributes:

• 25.4% Recycled materials used in construction (85% of construction debris was diverted from landfill – That’s 866 tons!)

• 33.3% Reduction in water use

• 52% Reduction in energy cost (LMS utilizes a Geothermal well field with heat pump system)

• 70% Energy obtained from Renewable green energy source (86% of site devoted to open space)

• 71 kw Solar Array System

• 22 Acres restored habitat prairie grasslands

What is LEED?

LEED® (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) is an internationally recognized green building certification system, or a points-based rating system, that focuses on environmentally-friendly design including water and energy efficiency, material selection, indoor environmental quality, and sustainable site development. The LEED criteria rank schools (or buildings) at various levels including Certified, Silver, Gold, and Platinum; Currently 3 Ohio schools have achieved the Platinum certification (USGBC, 2014).
