ABOUT THE CITY OF LONDON
The City of London, Ohio, with a population of just less than 11,000, serves as the county seat of Madison County. Strategically located about 25 miles from Columbus, London benefits from proximity to this major metropolitan area, driving recent growth and development. Historically experiencing steady, modest growth, the city's expansion is now accelerating due to its appeal as a bedroom community to Columbus and its attractive local amenities.
London is home to key employers, including Stanley Electric, Nissen Chemitec America, and Madison Health, which recently expanded its facilities. Additionally, the city has seen significant infrastructure improvements, such as sewer line upgrades and new housing developments. Over the next decade, about 1,000 new residential units, including apartments, condos, and single-family homes, are expected to accommodate the city’s growing population. This growth is also supported by the city’s designation as a Community Reinvestment Area, attracting investments in both new construction and renovation of historic properties.
London’s blend of rural, suburban, and urban influences reflects the broader characteristics of Ohio, offering a balanced lifestyle for its residents while maintaining a focus on managed growth and community development.
ABOUT MADISON COUNTY
Madison County, named after President James Madison, is home to nearly 45,000 residents as of 2024. Located in central Ohio, the county includes the Villages of Midway, Mount Sterling, Plain City, South Solon, West Jefferson, and the City of London. Agriculture has been a cornerstone of the county's economy and continues to play a vital role, with over 94% of the county's land currently in agricultural use. However, recent economic developments have diversified the region's growth prospects.
Between 2018 and 2020, Madison County saw significant economic expansion, with more than 6,000 jobs created or committed. The county’s strategic location between major projects, such as the $20 billion Intel semiconductor plants in nearby Licking County and the $4.4 billion Honda-LG Energy Solution electric vehicle battery plant in Fayette County, has further amplified its economic outlook. These investments are expected to create thousands of jobs and attract new residents to the region, impacting both housing demand and local businesses.
Infrastructure developments have also supported this growth. The establishment of the Mid-Ohio Water and Sewer District in 2022 has boosted the county's capacity for economic and residential expansion, particularly along the U.S. Route 42 corridor near the City of London. This is expected to facilitate new housing and industrial projects, positioning Madison County for continued growth and development well into the next decade.
