As a college pitcher, Mike Aman often waited with anticipation to get the call to take the mound. He felt a similar feeling as he sought to become a head high school baseball coach. This week, he received that call.
On Tuesday, June 27th, the London City School District Board of Education approved Aman as the next head coach of the Red Raider Baseball program and as an intervention specialist teacher at London Elementary School.
Aman played his high school baseball at Dublin Coffman and collegiately at Bluffton University. After beginning his teaching career at Columbus City Schools, Aman immediately sought opportunities to stay in the game and provide the same opportunities for young players that he received growing up. For the last three years, Aman has served as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Dublin Coffman, and as a pitching instructor and head coach at Bo Jackson Elite Sports in Hilliard.
Aman takes over a London program that has a bright future. Although the program had an up-and-down year during the 2023 campaign, the Red Raiders won two games in the OHSAA tournament, before being ousted on a heart-breaking walk-off play in the district semifinals. The program graduated only five seniors and expects to return a large number of varsity starters next season. In addition, the Red Raiders will be playing on a new turf infield with some contests being scheduled in the evening under newly installed LED lights.
Aman met with players and families just days after his hiring and plans to hold activities this summer in order to get to know players.
