October POG Honorees

In the Spring of 2019, the London City School District published its Portrait of a Graduate, which highlights the key skills and attitudes necessary for district graduates to have success in college and careers. Our district uses the Portrait of a Graduate to help design meaningful teaching and learning experiences for our students.

The following students were recognized during the October Regular Board of Education meeting for substantially demonstrating the district’s Portrait of a Graduate. Congratulations to each of these students!

Haegan Shaffner (3rd Grade) - London Elementary School

Haegan Shaffner exhibits the portrait of an LCS graduate. From day one of third grade, Haegan radiates positivity and kindness. Haegan steps up to help anyone who needs assistance. He helps people by talking through a task that needs to be completed or by helping another student organize his area. His willingness to include everyone with kind words & actions occurs daily. Haegan is an astute thinker as he puts his thoughts to paper. His excitement to learn, his willingness to work hard along with his tenacity & grit make him a wonderful role model. Haegan strives each day to become the best he can be. You would never know that Haegan has ocular albinism, a condition that affects his vision. Haegan exemplifies the qualities of a London City School Graduate!

Harper Witt (7th) - London Middle School

Harper is currently in her second year at the middle school, and her impact on our school community has been truly remarkable. Harper exemplifies success at LMS through her active participation in various leadership roles. In her first year, she joined the Student Council and took charge of managing the LMS volleyball team. As a 7th-grader, she still plays an active role in both the Student Council and the Volleyball team. Furthermore, Harper provides invaluable daily support in the LMS school office as an office helper.

Harper's first year at LMS was filled with accolades that underscore her outstanding character and contributions. She earned recognition as the Student of the Month, acknowledging her academic excellence and overall conduct. In addition, Harper received the Kindness Award, a testament to her exceptional thoughtfulness, dedication to helping others, and selflessness. Furthermore, she was honored with the prestigious Coffee Bean of the Month Award. This distinction reflects her unwavering positive demeanor and ability to perceive the world around her optimistically.

Harper is a highly motivated academic student and consistently earns a spot on the Merit Honor Roll every nine weeks throughout her middle school years, all while maintaining perfect attendance. Her outstanding qualities make her an exemplary member of the London City Schools community, evident in her nomination for the Best Citizen Award at the end of the 2023 academic year.

With her warm smile and daily greeting of "How are you today?" We consider ourselves incredibly fortunate to have her as a cherished London City Schools family member.

Ultimately, Harper embodies the district's goal of nurturing future-ready students who are critical and creative thinkers, effective communicators, proficient in literacy, numeracy, and technology, respectful to others, flexible, and adaptable.

Lily Beyer (11th) - London Unlimited

Lily Beyer has been selected as the London Unlimited Portrait of a Graduate, and her achievements and dedication to her school and community have made her a standout candidate for this recognition. For the past four years, Lily has been an integral part of the LHS Pride of London Marching Band, where she has demonstrated her musical talents as a member of the drum line. This year, she has taken on the role of Drum Major, showcasing her leadership and organizational skills within the band. Lily's talents extend beyond the realm of music. She has shown her athleticism and dedication by participating in Spring Tennis for two years, and she is gearing up for her third season. Her commitment to academic excellence is evident through her back-to-back Merit Honor Roll recognitions. Lily is also a thespian at heart, having participated in two fall plays Petra in Romeo and Juliet and this year, Martha in Cheaper by the Dozen. Her involvement in two spring musicals as an ensemble member in The Wizard of Oz and as a featured dancer in Hello Dolly speaks to her versatility and passion for the performing arts. 

In terms of leadership and community involvement, Lily has taken on the role of Junior Class Vice President and is an active member of the Student Council, showcasing her dedication to school governance. She is also a valued member of the Diversity Club, advocating for inclusivity and diversity within her school community. Lily has contributed to the local arts scene by performing in the Madison County Arts Council's summer musicals. Her featured dancer role in Mamma Mia! and participation in The Sound of Music as a member of the Nun's Chorus highlight her versatility and dedication to the arts. 

Lily Beyer embodies the qualities of an Effective Communicator, Critical and Creative Thinker, and Problem-Solver. Lily's flexibility and adaptability are evident in her willingness to explore a variety of educational pathways at London High School, from traditional courses to online LU courses and College Credit Plus courses. Her unwavering respect for herself and others, and proficiency in essential skills, make her a remarkable student and a deserving recipient of the London Unlimited Portrait of a Graduate recognition. 

Zach Jones (12th) - London High School

Zach Jones is a member of the Class of 2024. He is a stand-out athlete and role model in football, basketball, and track. He is also an involved member of the National Honor Society. He is enrolled in three college credit plus courses and as a junior earned dual credit for two courses. He has already scored 1,000 points in basketball. He's currently in the Top 20 of his class for Quality Points and Grade Point Average. He is an outstanding young man who exemplifies the RAIDER Way. He is an asset and brings value to all of his teams, school, and community. He has a desire for hirer learning and carries himself with class and dignity.
