LHS signs during signing day

On May 1st, the London City School District celebrated "Future Ready Day," a dynamic event spanning all three campuses—London Elementary School, London Middle School, and London High School. Future Ready Day is a day dedicated to providing students with immersive opportunities to explore diverse future pathways while celebrating the achievements of graduating seniors as they embark on their respective journeys.

The "High Schoolers in the Hallways" initiative took center stage at London Elementary School. Tailored for 3rd and 4th graders, this engaging experience features hands-on activity stations curated and led by high school students. From fingerprinting adventures to crafting candy sushi, filming news segments, braiding hair, exploring fire equipment, operating robots, petting farm animals, making butter, planting seeds, creating sidewalk art, learning Hispanic dances, participating in quiz bowl and e-sports matches, to discovering Ohio's colleges and universities through word searches and coloring pages—students are immersed in a diverse array of interactive experiences. This year, the event also showcased a captivating video produced by two LHS senior students, Daniel Johnson and Luke Wilson. The video features administrators, staff members, and community partners reading Kevin Fleming’s award-winning book, "There’s a Hat for That: Exploring Careers That Fit You Best."

Meanwhile, London Middle School hosted another successful "Life Fair.” With over 60 participants, including community members, local businesses, post-secondary institutions, and high school organizations, this fair provides middle school students invaluable insights into various pathways available during and after high school. Students received color-coded maps tailored to their YouScience high career aptitudes and interests, enabling them to navigate the event strategically and connect with organizations aligning with their aspirations.

The day's grand finale was "Senior Signing Day," a momentous occasion attended by high school students, the 8th-grade class from the middle school, the 5th-grade class from the elementary school, graduating seniors' families, and local community leaders. This celebratory event acknowledged each senior's unique journey into employment, enlistment into the Armed Services, or enrollment in post-secondary education, culminating in an official "signing" ceremony that marks the beginning of their exciting future paths.

The London City School District works diligently to expand and support a system of career exploration and advising, so that when students graduate they possess a firm understanding of their career aptitudes and interests, are knowledgeable of the steps they need to take to accomplish their goals, and they also possess the skills to succeed.
