Over the summer, the district staff and various vendors undertook numerous projects to upgrade district facilities. These projects included roof repairs, parking lot sealing, upgrading around 4,000 lights to LED, wall painting, classroom cleaning, and floor waxing. While these projects are essential for maintaining and enhancing our district facilities, none will have as significant an impact on the approximately 1,000 students at London Elementary as the new playground equipment.
The district utilized remaining Federal COVID funds to finance a major overhaul of the elementary playground. The equipment, originally installed when the school first opened twenty years ago, has been completely replaced.
To plan the project, district administrators engaged LES STEM students to design and pitch ideas for the new equipment. Partnering with MidStates Recreation, student ideas were shared with staff and the school’s PTO for additional input. The result is two new play areas encompassing approximately 18,000 square feet of state-of-the-art equipment including several pieces of adaptive and imaginative play areas.
Although the playground is now open, a ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for Monday, August 12th at 4:45 pm, immediately before the London Elementary School Open House.
