During its November regular meeting, the London City School District Board of Education approved a recommendation made by Dr. Kramer to break from the Madison Champaign County Education Service Center and realign with the Educational Service Center of Central Ohio beginning next school year.
Dr. Kramer explained that the district has grown modestly during the last ten years and is poised to grow even more in the future. In recent years, LCS has reached a tipping point, in which it has become more program and cost-effective to take back several educational programs once provided by the MCCESC. Over the last several months, the district conducted a comprehensive program and cost-effectiveness study of its current ESC partnership and explored realigning and partnering with other ESCs.
The results of the study produced several recommendations including realigning with the ESCCO, partnering directly with Madison County Developmental Disabilities to resume operations of the District’s Preschool at Fairhaven School, and contracting for special education-related services strategically with both the ESCCO and MCCESC. Each strategy would go into effect at the beginning of the next school year. Not only does this decision provide the district with access to far better services, the move is cost-effective. It is estimated that this decision will save LCS at least $150,000 per year. More information on the transition will be shared during the second semester of the school year.
