During its January Regular meeting, the London City School District Board of Education approved the design firm of Steed, Hammond, and Paul (SHP) to provide design and construction administrative services for the district’s tennis court project. As part of its Master Facility Plan, London plans to move the current tennis courts, which need significant repair, directly across Elm Street to the middle school campus. The project is expected to include six courts with spectator seating and lighting to support both interscholastic play and community use. Pickleball lines will be added if feasible and cost-effective.
Moving the courts will allow for future development on the LHS campus including expanded parking, an additional access road from Keny Boulevard, and future upgrades to the Bowlus Field complex. The district has been strategic in saving permanent improvement funds which will be used to finance the project.
It is expected that the tennis courts will be completed by the end of the summer in time for the girls' fall season.
