Mr. Johnson

In the Spring of 2019, the London City School District published its Portrait of a Graduate, which highlights the key skills and attitudes necessary for district graduates to have success in college and careers. Our district uses the Portrait of a Graduate to help design meaningful teaching and learning experiences for our students. In a similar way during the Spring of 2022, the London City School District worked to identify and publish the most valued skills and dispositions that educators should demonstrate daily to help prepare our students to be future-ready. These skills include:

  • Effective Communication,

  • Focused on Relationship-Building,

  • Being Flexible and Adaptable,

  • Demonstrating High Integrity; and,

  • Being a role model for Life-Long Learning.

Mr. Johnson was recognized during the February Regular Board of Education meeting for substantially demonstrating the district’s Portrait of an Educator. Congratulations Mr. Johnson!

Nominated by the Administration and Peers:

Joe Johnson is such a positive role model in both academics and athletics. When you see him in the classroom, you realize that the energy he brings to his players as a basketball coach is the same energy he brings to the students he teaches daily.  He is truly an inspiring and compassionate role model.

In the classroom, Mr. Johnson is patient and empathetic, always ready to lend a helping hand to students who may be struggling with the material or with personal challenges. He creates a safe, inclusive environment where students feel comfortable expressing themselves and asking questions without fear of judgment. The positive attitude he brings is echoed by the students in his classroom.  He finds ways to motivate students to strive for their best, even when faced with difficult tasks.

Mr. Johnson is truly someone who coaches to teach.  In other words, he inspires his players and his students to be the best that they can be and will continue to encourage them and be on their side.  He not only helps students with their academic goals but also guides them through life lessons, encouraging teamwork, perseverance, and resilience. Whether it's through providing constructive feedback, celebrating successes, or supporting students through setbacks, Mr. Johnson teaches the importance of character and growth, both inside and outside the classroom.

It is truly an honor to know Joe and to work alongside him!
