In the Spring of 2019, the London City School District published its Portrait of a Graduate, highlighting the key skills and attitudes necessary for district graduates to succeed in college and careers. Our district uses the Portrait of a Graduate to help design meaningful teaching and learning experiences for our students.
The following students were recognized during the March Regular Board of Education meeting for substantially demonstrating the district’s Portrait of a Graduate. Congratulations to each of these students!
Remington Adkins (1st-Grade) - London Elementary School
As a first-grade student in Ms. Abbott’s class, Remington Adkins exemplifies the qualities of a Portrait of a Graduate. He goes above and beyond in his academics and is determined to always do his best in whatever he puts his mind to. Remington takes great pride in his work and inspires those around him to do the same.
Remi embodies the qualities of both a kind friend and a future leader. He consistently encourages his classmates to do their best and is always ready to offer a helping hand. Remi’s empathy and respect for others make him a valued friend and classmate, creating a positive environment where everyone feels included. His actions every day reflect the qualities of a well-rounded and thoughtful graduate in the making.
Kiandra “Kiki” Oiler (7th-grade) - London Middle School
LMS would like to recognize an exceptional student, Kiki Oiler, who is a true embodiment of the qualities we celebrate in our Portrait of a Graduate. Kiki's dedication to academic excellence, her commitment to personal growth, and her contributions to our school community make her an outstanding candidate for this recognition.
Kiki's achievements in the classroom speak for themselves. She has consistently demonstrated academic excellence, starting with a perfect score of 804 on her 5th-grade Math OST—14% higher than the state average. Her success continued into 6th grade, where she earned Advanced ratings in both Math and English Language Arts (ELA), outperforming the state average by 8-10%. Kiki's pursuit of excellence has been unwavering, as she has earned a place on the Merit Honor Roll every year since 6th grade and is currently taking High School Algebra as a 7th grader—an impressive feat that speaks to her intellectual capability and determination.
As Mrs. Meddock shares, “Kiki’s dedication to her studies is reflected in her straight-A performance this school year, including in her High School Algebra 1 course. She continues to rise to every academic challenge she encounters, including excelling in high school-level coursework at such a young age. Her ability to navigate and thrive in these advanced subjects showcases her intellectual maturity and readiness for the future.”
Kiki is not only a scholar but also a well-rounded individual who excels in extracurricular activities. She has been a member of Student Council, where she has proven herself to be a reliable and dedicated leader. Mrs. Davis notes, “Kiki is always respectful, uses her time wisely, and is always willing to help others. Even when tasks push her outside of her comfort zone, she volunteers with enthusiasm and takes initiative to help her peers. Kiki’s natural leadership abilities have made her an integral part of her team, and her peers and teachers alike depend on her to help bring projects to fruition.”
In addition to her academic and leadership pursuits, Kiki is an accomplished athlete. She plays volleyball for both the school and a club team, demonstrating excellent sportsmanship and teamwork. As Mrs. Meddock observes, “Kiki’s volleyball team had a remarkable 16-3 record, reaching the league championship in a tough season. Her commitment to her teammates, combined with her determination to be the best, highlights her strong character both on and off the court.”
Kiki is also a dedicated reader, with a particular love for mystery novels by Natasha Preston, and she is soon to be a member of the National Junior Honor Society, which she will be inducted into later this month. Despite her many accomplishments, Kiki remains humble and grounded, always striving to improve herself and to help others along the way.
Beyond her impressive academic and extracurricular achievements, Kiki is driven by a larger purpose—her dream of becoming a surgeon, inspired by her grandfather, Dr. Grant Schmidt, who has dedicated his life to the field of medicine. This ambition reflects Kiki’s deep sense of compassion and her desire to make a meaningful impact on the world.
Kiki’s journey is a testament to the power of perseverance, curiosity, and kindness. She exemplifies the very values we hope to instill in all of our students. As Mr. Ostendorf shares, “Kiki’s ability to excel in a high school-level course as a 7th grader is nothing short of impressive. She has demonstrated an unwavering work ethic and an eagerness to take on challenges that push her toward success.”
Kiki’s story is a shining example of what it means to be a Portrait of a Graduate. Her dedication to her academic work, her leadership in the school community, and her commitment to her personal growth set her apart as an exemplary student.
