On April 29th, 2020, Dr. Amy Acton signed an order closing all school buildings until 11:59 pm on June 30th, 2020. This order was interpreted by local health departments and by OHSAA to include all indoor and outdoor school facilities. Last week, Governor Dewine released guidance that non-contact/limited contact sports like baseball and softball would be allowable beginning May 26th under certain circumstances, which prompted an updated interpretation of the original order.
LCS is currently collaborating with Madison County Public Health to plan for the safe and effective reopening of our outdoor facilities including our track, tennis courts, baseball and softball fields, and our playgrounds for district student-athletes and the community. The result of the collaboration will be an agreed-upon written plan that is approved by the health department which maximizes best health and sanitization practices.
Although the Governor has released the date of May 26th for certain sports leagues to restart, when district facilities can actually be opened is very much dependent on the when Ohio releases its guidelines.
Our school district greatly appreciates our London community and area youth organizations and the opportunities they provide for all of our students. It is our priority to make our facilities available this summer. Given the new state guidelines, much will be expected by the school district, each organization, and our community in order to make this a reality.
Please Note: This reopening only includes outdoor areas. Indoor areas are to remain closed by order of the state health department until at least June 30th.
