Good Evening London Families -
It has been brought to the attention of the district that an adult in our community has posted a TikTok stating that a gun was brought to London Middle School today. This statement is patently false. The district nor the police department have any evidence whatsoever supporting this claim.
Unfortunately, today’s false post was another in a stream of recent situations that have been shared on social media by adults which have been overtly false or have distorted or greatly exaggerated the facts of a situation. Fueled by speculation on social media these situations are causing anxiousness for parents and becoming at best a distraction to our district mission and at worst a safety risk in and of themselves to the students, staff, and visitors to our schools.
It would be impossible for the district to respond to each individual claim on social media now or in the future. However, I can assure you that any and all reports of safety concerns are prioritized, investigated, and if warranted reported to the London Police Department. Our social studies and English curriculums teach our students to be critical regarding sources of information. This is a good lesson for us as adults as well.
The district will continue to send factual safety alerts to families regarding situations that have involved our students or our schools that are relevant and appropriate to be shared with the community. Social media cannot always make the same factual claim. Please help us combat this growing problem by not speculating on a situation or sharing information that cannot be verified. If you as a parent have a specific question or concern, please contact your child’s teacher and/or the school administration.
Have a wonderful rest of your weekend.
Dr. Lou Kramer
District Superintendent
