Earlier in the summer, Madison County Wildlife Officer, Matt Teders, responded to a call about baby barn owls that had fallen from their nest at London Elementary School. Volunteers from the Ohio Wildlife Center rescued the owlets and brought them to their hospital for evaluation. After rehabilitation, the owlets were relocated to a foster nest at The Wilds.
Two weeks later, Wildlife Officer Teders received another call about a barn owlet that had fallen from the same nest. The Ohio Wildlife Center evaluated this owlet and determined it could be returned to the nest. To monitor the situation, Officer Teders installed a trail camera at the nest site, confirming that adult owls were still visiting, suggesting there were more owlets inside. A platform was installed below the nest entrance, along with the camera, to prevent further falls.
Looking ahead, London City Schools will collaborate with the Ohio Division of Wildlife to build a barn owl box for future nesting, providing a safe and secure environment for these owls.
