Last year, the London City School District launched a partnership with Champions in order to provide before and after school care options for London Elementary Families. A promising, but modest start ended when Ohio transitioned to remote learning last March. Due to the Pandemic, summer camps, which were previously planned for students in June, July, and August, were also scrapped. With a new year, comes new possibilities and the enrollment of the program has jumped considerably to start the year with new inquiries coming in every day.
Champions is an accredited, curriculum-based childcare program, which integrates social-emotional and inquiry-based learning with a focus on building executive-function skills. Student interests help drive activities that are focused on these areas.
The program operates from 6:30 am until 6:00 pm every day and is housed on the first floor of London Elementary School. With the consolidation and relocation of London's Preschool program to Fairhaven, the district is now providing transportation for students to and from London Elementary School for Preschool wrap-around care.
