Good Afternoon Families,
Yesterday, the district issued a safety alert regarding a false threat to London Middle School and a spoofed social media post. Today, the London Police Department charged an individual involved in the incident with inducing panic. This individual will face both appropriate school disciplinary actions and criminal charges.
While the alleged threat posed no actual danger to the safety of our schools, misinformation and speculation on social media have become a significant concern. Earlier today, school officials had to address various false claims circulating online, including exaggerated reports such as “police swarming the elementary school,” “the middle school being locked down,” and “elementary students losing recess for non-attendance.” These statements are entirely false and have created unnecessary anxiety for parents, which in itself raises safety concerns.
In January 2023, I addressed a similar situation in an open letter to families, and much of the guidance I provided then still applies today. We encourage families to rely on official communications from the district and avoid spreading or acting on unverified information.
We remain grateful for our strong, collaborative partnership with the London Police Department, and we will continue to provide timely and accurate safety updates to families when necessary and appropriate. Your trust and support are invaluable as we work together to ensure a safe and productive learning environment for all students.
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Dr. Lou Kramer
District Superintendent
