Dear London Families,

The banner stretched across the team entrance to Bowlus Field reads “Climb,” serving as a reminder that every practice and every game is an opportunity to improve. In the same spirit, our district has been on a steady climb of improved academic achievement and student growth since the school closures in the spring of 2020. This ongoing progress was reflected in the release of Ohio’s district report cards last week.

Ohio's star rating system evaluates schools annually, ranging from one star (Significantly below standards) to five stars (Significantly exceeds state standards) in half-star increments. I’m proud to share that London has not only maintained its “Meets State Standards” rating but has also advanced from a 3-star to a 3.5-star rating. London Elementary School earned 4 stars, and London High School received an impressive 4.5 stars, with both schools exceeding state expectations.

Additional highlights from this year’s report card include:

  • A continuous four-year increase in our performance index, measuring the achievement of every student on every state test (Achievement).

  • The district’s best performance to date in student academic growth compared to expected benchmarks (Progress).

  • An improved rating in closing educational gaps across student groups (Gap Closing).

  • An "Exceeds State Standards" rating for our Graduation Rate, with a 93.9% rate during the 2021-2022 school year.

  • A reduction in student chronic absenteeism by over 5% in one year.

While we celebrate these accomplishments, we recognize there is still work to do. The district received a rating below state standards in one area, Early Literacy, which measures reading improvement for K-3 students, and London Middle School’s rating also fell below expectations. Both of these areas are top priorities in our strategic plan moving forward.

Our Ohio Report Card is just one measure of success. To learn more about the district’s ongoing improvement efforts, please visit our district quality profile webpage. We remain committed to our continuous improvement process and will keep climbing to ensure all London City Schools students are prepared for life’s challenges and opportunities in an ever-changing world.

Sincerely,

Dr. Lou Kramer

District Superintendent
