Dear London Families,
Throughout the first six weeks of the school year, we have looked very closely at our teacher availability, Madison County’s Health Advisory Level, as well as student enrollment and attendance trends in order to measure how successful we are in providing safe and effective on campus learning. So far despite reporting four (4) cases of COVID19 in our schools, the start of the school year has demonstrated that the district has been successful in implementing the protective actions required locally and on a state level. Each of the individuals who were diagnosed with COVID19 are close to or already recovered. It is also important to understand that each case was independent of each other and did not involve any known person to person transmission in our schools. Despite a significant shortage of substitute teachers, our teacher availability has remained consistent through the first weeks of the year.
Because of the success we have observed to start the year, we will be moving back to on campus instruction for all students, in all grade levels beginning Monday, October 19th. All current protective actions such as mandatory mask use, physical/social distancing, daily wellness checks, etc. will remain in place. Just a reminder, those students who have enrolled in our Raider Remote program must remain in the program until the beginning of the second semester.
Restoring in person instruction now, allows us the opportunity to understand if this is sustainable prior to the start of cold/flu season. Every effort will be made to remain in this stage throughout the remainder of the school year, however, a change back to less in person instruction could be made if the district encounters a spike in cases or has difficulty maintaining proper staffing.
I continue to be thankful for the support and understanding of our community as we all navigate our new normal. Please help us keep our students on campus by encouraging your child to follow all protective actions and keeping your child home whenever they show a COVID19 symptom. We will continue to give periodic updates as the school year continues.
Stay well,
Dr. Lou Kramer
District Superintendent
