In many ways, the 2020-2021 school year has been one big contingency. Along with the pandemic, London has had to match its learning methods to the restrictions of Madison County Public Health. This has resulted in each school operating in person, in hybrid, and all virtual at different times during this school year. Beginning earlier this month, Mother Nature decided it was her turn.
London currently has cancelled school four days due to inclement weather (February 1st, 2nd, 9th, and 11th). Yearly, the district’s contingency plan allows for school to be closed for five days without taking measures to make up missed instructional time. In past years, this would be followed by three days of E-Learning. It stands to reason that virtual learning would be used to make up the required time should the district have to make up additional instructional time this year.
If the sixth calamity day is called, parents will receive a notification that on campus instruction is cancelled for the day. Instructions will also include a notice that virtual learning will take place on a two hour delay. This will be very similar to how each school conducted its “virtual Wednesday” instruction this school year. However, students will be given additional time (up to two weeks) in order to complete assignments. More information will be posted if and when contingencies are needed.
